Office scheme to oust Boxpark from Shoreditch

Dick E Lowry built 2052 Mayview for his family in 1973. The post and beam house – on the market for the first time – still retains the majority of its original features, including a large fireplace in the master bedroom, built-in closets and an original bathroom suite (complete with a baby blue sink.

Built into a hillside, the three-bedroom property is wrapped with a deck that looks out over Silverlake and the San Gabriel mountains. Inside, Lowry experimented with proportion, creating voluminous communal spaces flooded with natural light from large picture windows.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

An architect’s home is a place where they can experiment – test out their ideas unrestrained by a client’s brief, then hone them to perfection. This makes their private dwellings a seminal piece of their work, whether they’ve simply added their own touch to an existing space, or created their architectural fantasy from scratch.
